Hospital Massacre: 22 Killed, Including Medical Staff, in Militia Bombing

Al-Kuweik – Sudanhorizon

At least 22 civilians, including medical staff, were killed and eight others were wounded on Thursday, when a drone fired by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia targeted a hospital in the town of Al-Kuweik, South Kordofan State.

The Sudanese Doctors Network stated in a press release that “22 civilians were killed, including the medical director of Al-Kuweik Military Hospital and three other medical staff members, while eight others were wounded as a result of the RSF bombing of the hospital in South Kordofan State.”

The network condemned the targeting of health facilities and medical personnel, emphasizing that this constitutes a war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and conventions that guarantee the protection of civilians and medical facilities.

It also confirmed that this attack is not the first of its kind, but rather part of a series of attacks that have plagued South Kordofan State, leading to the closure of several hospitals, which will exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and threaten the remaining health services provided to civilians.

The network held the Rapid Support Forces militias fully responsible for this crime, calling on the international community, UN and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop the repeated attacks against  health facilities.
