The Red Sea State Government celebrated the signing of the project to complete the electricity of the “Kalanaib” station in Port Sudan, east of the country, yesterday (Sunday), where the Federal Government was represented at the signing ceremony by the Ministry of Energy and Oil and the Ministry of Finance, while the other party was represented by the National Energy and Engineering Company affiliated with the Defense Industries System.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Energy and Oil, its Minister Mohi El-Din Naeem signed on its behalf, while Minister Gibril Ibrahim also signed on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, and Al-Jili Abu Shama, the civilian deputy director of the Defense Industries System, signed on behalf of the National Energy and Engineering Company.

The Transitional Sovereignty Council Member, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Gayer, who supervises the ministries of the economic sector, said that the project will produce (350) megawatts, which exceeds the needs of the Red Sea State.

Jaber revealed the opening of investment in the field of electricity production, for the non-governmental sector, especially in clean energy, stressing the state’s support for all projects of the Ministry of Energy and Oil, including its projects under study, such as the installation of windmills in the Northern State and the Red Sea, south of Tokar.

For his part, the Minister of Energy and Oil, Mohi El-Din Naeem, said that “this agreement came based on the state’s directives regarding the war economies aimed at stopping large projects except for extreme necessity,” considering the Kalanaib electricity project as one of the important and extremely necessary projects because it provides permanent electricity that covers the Red Sea State’s consumption of electricity and overflows with (130) megawatts added to the national grid.

The minister pointed out that the project has been suspended for years due to the failure of funding, indicating that they in the ministry are ready this time to complete it on time.

For his part, the Governor of the Red Sea, retired Major General Mustafa Mohamed Nour, stated that the Kalanaib electricity project represents life for the people of the state; revealing that the stability of the electricity current represents a big dream for the citizens of the Red Sea State; Affirming his readiness to overcome all difficulties and obstacles that may face the work of the project at the Klanayeb station.

The Sudanhorizon news website indicates that the city of Port Sudan, which has become an administrative capital since the outbreak of war in Sudan in April of last year, has been suffering for years from an electricity deficit that reaches about 500 megawatts in the summer, and that efforts were made to reduce this deficit during the past year, but they did not reach the stage of final solutions.
