His Majesty King Trump!!

By: Al-Obeid Ahmed Murawih

Since taking the oath of office on January 20, former U.S. President Donald Trump has acted more like a crowned king than an elected leader in one of the world’s oldest and most respected democracies.

But “His Majesty King Trump” doesn’t behave as a monarch only over the American people who elected him — he acts as if he rules the entire world. He appears intent on expanding his “personal kingdom” to include Canada, the Panama Canal, and Greenland, and even seeks to occupy or buy — it makes no difference to him — Gaza, aiming to turn it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” Whether the people of Gaza welcome his offer to help them find a new homeland or are crushed by the Israeli war machine (backed by U.S. weapons and technology) seems irrelevant to him. Homes and refugee tents are bombed over their heads, water, electricity, and medicine are cut off — so if American bombs don’t kill them, starvation or disease will.

Beyond that, Trump seeks to subjugate the rest of the world’s “scattered mini-states,” bringing them under his control — whether through flattery or fear of his wrath.

All this unfolds while no one in the so-called free world, or even the unfree one, dares to tell him, “Watch yourself!” The international system that emerged after the world wars appears to be in a state of clinical death. Ironically, Trump claims he wants to prevent a third world war by mediating an end to Russia’s war on Ukraine — a war that Moscow views as a European assault on its borders, with Europe attempting to entangle NATO in the conflict.

However, Trump’s “noble intentions” and rhetoric about saving the world from nuclear catastrophe are contradicted by destructive actions: the Middle East is being dragged into a devastating war spanning Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen. The stated objective is to “clip the wings” of Iranian influence, force Tehran back within its borders, and dismantle its nuclear and missile programs. The key beneficiary of these efforts is no secret — Israel, the West’s favoured child and America’s most spoiled ally. Since the 1990s, Israel has advocated for a “New Middle East” — once through peace agreements like Oslo and Madrid, and now through brute military force.

It’s unclear what kind of deal Trump is trying to strike with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Trump’s frequent talk of land swaps raises eyebrows. As his administration plots to annexe Greenland and beyond, he may be angling for a Russian-Ukrainian agreement that includes Ukrainian territorial concessions to Russia — even though Moscow views all of Ukraine as historically Russian.

Today, “King Trump” concludes a Gulf tour, leaving with his pockets — and ego — full, after signing over $3 trillion in deals. In his speeches across Riyadh, Doha, and Abu Dhabi, he emphasised that the motto of this tour is “America First.” His aim was clear: attract more Gulf investment into the American economy, sell more U.S. goods and weapons, while offering no serious promises—not even rhetorical ones—about solving the region’s core issue: the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land. There was no condemnation of Israel’s daily crimes, and not a word about democratic transition or civilian governance — concepts that apparently have no place in the Trump era. And no one even mentioned those once-preached “American values” that former administrations claimed they wanted to spread around the world.

Just as the late Colonel Qaddafi once called himself “King of Kings of Africa,” Trump’s second term — and his recent Gulf tour — sends a clear message: he sees himself as King of Kings of the World. His speech at Al-Udeid Air Base on Thursday morning confirmed as much. He boasted of commanding the world’s most powerful military, owning the best weapons, and his intention to upgrade the Iron Dome into a “Golden Dome.” He vowed American dominance on land, sea, and in space. For those who cooperate — welcome. For those who oppose — expect “maximum pressure” until you fall in line.

Let’s not forget: in his first term, Trump appointed his son-in-law as White House senior adviser. Now, as he ends his Middle East tour, he talks of returning home to greet his new grandchildren. Speaking to U.S. troops at Al-Udeid, he hinted openly at seeking a third presidential term. He knows the real returns from his multitrillion-dollar deals won’t mature until after his current term ends — and for that, he’ll need to amend the U.S. Constitution, a possibility he’s already floated.

Which means: instead of importing democracy to our region, Trump may end up exporting hereditary rule to his own!

With a firm grip on the Republican Party, both houses of Congress, and the financial sector, Trump acts according to his personal convictions and what he considers “tremendous interests.” He makes decisions in days that past presidents couldn’t make in years. He skipped Israel on his Middle East visit, he wants a political settlement with Iran (advised by his Qatari friends), he lifted sanctions on Syria at the request of Erdogan and MBS, and he even met with Ahmad Al-Sharaa, a man listed on U.S. terrorism watchlists!
