Geological Research Authority Briefs Nine Ambassadors on Mineral Investment Opportunities

Khartoum – Sudan Horizon

The General Authority for Geological Research has briefed nine Sudanese ambassadors, ahead of their departure for overseas postings, on the country’s mineral resources and available investment opportunities. The initiative aims to leverage diplomatic missions to promote the mining sector and attract international partnerships.

The ambassadors are heading to Rwanda, the Central African Republic, South Korea, Indonesia, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Australia, Iraq, and the Sudanese Consulate General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Authority’s Director-General, Ahmed Haroun Al-Tom, presented a working paper outlining current investment opportunities, particularly in industrial minerals, energy minerals, and rare earth elements.

He explained that supply chains in major economies were beginning to run short of resources, with attention expected to turn towards the African continent in general and Sudan in particular, given the country’s vast mineral potential.

Al-Tom affirmed that the authority would provide all overseas missions with feasibility studies and promotional materials. He expressed confidence that this cooperation would help achieve a breakthrough in mining investment at a critical juncture in the country’s economic and political development.

For his part, Ambassador Mohamed Ismail, who is departing for South Korea, spoke on behalf of the ambassadors, saying: “We held an effective and constructive discussion on expanding investment opportunities and partnerships in the minerals sector. It added a new dimension to our outlook, as our concerns had previously been focused on agricultural and livestock production.”

He expressed hope that Sudan would become an active partner and producer alongside other countries in the minerals sector and related industries.
