The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned attempts to use false allegations with the aim of manipulating the humanitarian situation in Sudan and use it as a tool for interference in the country‘s domestic affairs.
The ministry confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that these allegations were aimed at undermining Sudan’s sovereignty and destabilizing it security so as to create an environment conducive to foreign interventions. It said these false allegations are seeking to transform the Sudanese people into a nation of refugees and displaced persons, totally dependent on foreign humanitarian assistance.
The statement said that the Sudanese delegation to the UN has presented government observations during the briefing session of the Security Council held Monday on the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Assessment (IPC) report. It said the delegation has underlined that the report has failed to objectively reflect the food situation and food security in the country.
The statement indicated that the report was based on inaccurate data as no field survey was carried out since 2022, ignored documented scientific indicators , failed to adhere to the consensus reached with national experts, beside leaking its findings to the media well prior to officially presenting them to the Government of Sudan.
The statement added that with regard to the context of the objective assessment of the food situation, forecasts indicate that maize and millet production this season may range from 7 to 8 million tons, which exceeds local needs that are put at about 4.5 to 5 million tons. The ministry argued that these indicators completely dismiss any allegation of famine, and on the contrary show the country’s ability to contribute to enhancing regional food security.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the humanitarian challenge in some specific areas is the result of the deliberate starvation policy implemented by the Rapid Support Militia, an international crime that requires condemnation and accountability.
The Ministry has also underlined that the same parties which in August last year promoted the existence of famine in the Zamzam IDP camp, and which demanded the opening of Adre crossing as the only means to address the situation, have failed to contribute to improving the situation there albeit the opening of routes for humanitarian aid delivery for five months. It noted that the militias continued to mount their attacks and continuous shelling of the camp using heavy artillery and drones.
The Sudanese government has further renewed its firm commitment to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people, enhancing food security and addressing the root causes of the humanitarian crisis. It stressed its full keenness to protect Sudan’s sovereignty and independence.
