Following Meeting with Al-Burhan: Egypt’s FM — “Egypt Stands with Sudan and Its National Institutions”
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, affirmed the depth of Sudanese-Egyptian relations, highlighting the historic and enduring ties that bind the peoples of both nations.
This came during his meeting today with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ambassador Badr Abdelatty, in the presence of Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohieddin Salem, Sudan’s Ambassador to Egypt General Imad Al-Din Adawi, and Egypt’s Ambassador to Sudan Hani Salah. Abdelatty conveyed to Al-Burhan the greetings of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
General Al-Burhan expressed his gratitude to Egypt’s government and people for their steadfast support of Sudan in various regional and international forums, and for their commitment to Sudan’s peace, security, stability, and sovereignty. He emphasized the mutual will of both nations to strengthen bilateral cooperation across all fields.
For his part, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty stated that he had delivered a message of solidarity from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to his Sudanese counterpart, underscoring the deep brotherly relations between the two nations. He reaffirmed Egypt’s principled stance in support of Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and the protection of its national institutions and resources.
The minister noted that the talks covered ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, and trade sectors, as well as the shared destiny of both nations — particularly in the area of water security, given that Egypt and Sudan are both downstream Nile Basin states.
He stressed that the two countries share identical positions on the issue of Nile water security, describing it as an existential matter for both peoples. Abdelatty also said he had been briefed by Al-Burhan on the military situation and humanitarian conditions on the ground, reaffirming Egypt’s firm support for Sudan and its national institutions, including the armed forces.
The Egyptian foreign minister extended his wishes for peace and stability to the Sudanese people, noting that this visit marked his fourth to Sudan since assuming office — a reflection, he said, of the depth and vitality of Sudanese-Egyptian relations. He further emphasized that President Al-Sisi personally follows developments in Sudanese-Egyptian relations closely, in pursuit of the shared interests of the peoples of the Nile Valley.
Minister Abdelatty had arrived in Port Sudan earlier in the day on a bilateral visit aimed at discussing avenues of cooperation and coordinating positions on a number of key issues.
