The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Jibril Ibrahim, reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the repercussions of the war and its impact on citizens and infrastructure. He pointed out the international community’s shortcomings in helping Sudan overcome the current crisis.
During his meeting on Monday with the German Ambassador to Sudan, Thomas Tröstig, at the Ministry, Dr. Ibrahim provided a detailed explanation of the war’s effects on unarmed citizens, national resources, infrastructure destruction, and the halt of production. He emphasized that the government’s efforts to benefit citizens have not received any support from the international community, which has limited its assistance to humanitarian aid in the health and education sectors. He noted that even this limited aid is delivered through third parties, primarily UN organizations.
The Minister expressed hope that Germany could mobilize the international community to secure support for the Sudanese people and participate in the reconstruction of the country’s war-damaged infrastructure.
Dr Ibrahim also highlighted the high transportation costs for humanitarian aid through the Adre border crossing, which is controlled by rebel militias. He suggested that it might be better to close the crossing unless the government monitors it.
For his part, the German Ambassador affirmed his interest in developing cooperative relations between the two countries and assisting Sudan in achieving peace through negotiations. He expressed concern about addressing the war’s impact on citizens and advancing the political process in Sudan.
