El Fasher IDP’s in Northern State File 1,365 Lawsuits Against the RSF

Sudan’s Attorney General, Intisar Abdel Aal, announced on Monday that displaced persons from El Fasher in Northern State have filed 1,365 legal cases against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Attorney General said in a press statement during her visit to the Al-Afaf camp for Darfur IDPs in the city of Al-Dabbah that the recorded complaints relate to killings, injuries, rape, looting of property, as well as a new lawsuit concerning destruction of infrastructure.
She added that a team from the Public Prosecution has begun investigations and the process of receiving complaints from El Fasher IDPs in Al-Afaf camp.
She stated that the team will remain stationed in the camp to investigate the violations and crimes committed by the RSF.
The Attorney General stressed that there is no need for any external body to support them in investigating the recent violations, adding:
“Our institutions are capable of examining and investigating any case and holding every offender accountable so that no one escapes punishment.”
On 14 November, the UN Human Rights Council decided to form an international fact-finding mission regarding the violations and crimes committed against civilians in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State. The Sudanese government, however, immediately objected to the decision.
The Sudanese Minister of Justice said in statements to Sudanhorizon on Sunday that they will not allow the international fact-finding committee to enter the country.
Public Prosecution teams began on Sunday conducting investigations and receiving complaints from El Fasher IDPs in the Al-Afaf camp, east of Al-Dabbah, concerning the violations and crimes committed by the RSF in El Fasher.
Attorney General Intisar Ahmed Abdel Aal arrived in Dongola, the capital of Northern State, on Sunday at the head of a team from the National Committee tasked with investigating crimes and violations of national law and international humanitarian law. The team will conduct investigations involving those forcibly displaced from El Fasher in the Dongola and Al-Dabbah localities.
Thousands of residents of El Fasher and surrounding towns fled to Northern State after the RSF seized control of the city in late October.
According to Northern State authorities, the number of displaced persons from Darfur and Kordofan has reached around 100,000 IDPs in the state, including approximately 57,000 in Al-Dabbah locality alone.
