The Director General of the Ministry of Health in North Darfur State, Dr. Khadija Musa, has confirmed that the health situation in El Fasher was now stable.
In a statement to Sudanhorizon news website, she said that the town of El Fashir experiences shortage in nutrition supplies because of the economic siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces militia.
She added that despite the arrival of the rainy season, there are no cases of rain-related diseases. She explained that there are cases of cholera in Tawila, Umm Kadada, and some other areas of the state.
She said that there have been 70 deaths from cholera in Tawila, which is controlled by the RSF militia, and five other cases in other areas.
She added that Tawila is difficult to reach for health personnel in the state and that the militia prevents them from entering to carry out their work. She noted that the Rapid Support Forces lack health personnel and rely on some of the state’s Ministry of Health personnel located in Tawila.
The North Darfur State Health Official confirmed that ministry staff are working under shelling and surveillance by the militia, and that they are performing their work under extremely harsh conditions. She explained that only three hospitals are currently operating in El Fasher, and that the children’s hospital is out of service.
She added, however, that services have resumed in a section of the Saudi Hospital, which was previously bombed. She added, “We have not received any new medicines due to the siege.” She noted that the militias are practicing a systematic starvation campaign against citizens in El Fasher, which is causing forced displacement.
She indicated that no aid is currently reaching El Fasher, whether from international organizations or even from the Sudanese government.
