The former ruling National Congress Party (NCP) has called on political forces to reach a Sudanese-led solution to the country’s crisis. In a press statement from the party’s political sector, which was received by The Investigator news site, the NCP stated: “The National Congress calls on all the people of Sudan to come together in unity, as the solution is in our hands, not in the hands of others.”

The statement added, “The NCP affirms that it will work sincerely and faithfully with all national political forces and civil society organisations to achieve national consensus that leads the country to stability and peace. The National Congress will remain present in the political scene, defending the dignity, sovereignty, and unity of Sudan and its people, and will not accept or succumb to being excluded from political action.”

The NCP also urged the U.S. administration “to ensure that its envoy respects the people of Sudan and its state institutions and refrains from inciting division among its political and social components” in its efforts to help the Sudanese people.

The statement praised what it described as the sincere efforts of friendly countries in this regard. Still, it noted, “However, the repeated statements of U.S. envoy Tom Perriello in the media do not help build trust between him and the Sudanese people.”

The statement also highlighted that “the humanitarian disaster that has befallen the Sudanese people due to the actions of the rebel militia requires dedication, sincerity, and honesty from all actors to address it.”

It continued, “The NCP is confident that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which holds the trust of the Sudanese people and government, will prioritise implementing the outcomes of the Jeddah Forum so that other parties do not attempt to undermine its results.”
