Sudan: New 5% Increase in Customs Dollar Rate
Sudanhorizon – Nazik Shamam
The Sudanese Customs Authority implemented a new 5% increase in the customs dollar exchange rate on Monday, raising it from 3.222 Sudanese pounds to 3.395 pounds.
Informed sources told Sudanhorizon that the increase comes amid the continued rise of foreign currency exchange rates against the Sudanese pound in the parallel market.
The customs dollar is the exchange rate used to calculate customs duties on imported goods entering the country, with payments then made in Sudanese pounds. Its value is not directly tied to global currency prices except to the extent determined by the government through the relevant institutions.
