Closure of the Galabat Border Crossing Between Sudan and Ethiopia

The Sudanese authorities have closed the Galabat border crossing with the eastern neighbor Ethiopia.
According to informed sources for Sudanhorizon, the Fano militias in the Ethiopian Amhara region adjacent to Gedaref State have taken control of the Matama area adjacent to the city of Galabat in the Basanda border locality in Gedaref State.
The Sudanese authorities have suspended border trade operations between Sudan and Ethiopia, in addition to travel between the two countries, while the Sudanese authorities have allowed the federal police and the Ethiopian army to enter Sudanese territory and disarm them. In return, the Fano militias have allowed the Sudanese stranded inside the border to travel and leave.
The sources indicated that the Fano militias have taken control of the main road of the crossing linking Sudan and Ethiopia, while the Ethiopian army has stationed itself in Shahidi Governorate, which is controlled by the Ethiopian army.
