AU Condemns Formation of Parallel Government in Sudan and Foreign Interference Fueling the Conflict

Addis Ababa – Sudanhorizon

The African Union’s Peace and Security Council, in its meeting held in Addis Ababa, strongly condemned the announcement by the “Tassisi” coalition—led by the Rapid Support Forces—regarding the formation of a parallel government in Sudan. The Council rejected any attempt to fragment the country.

According to the statement issued following its meeting on Tuesday, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to respecting Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It also urged all African Union member states and the international community not to recognize or provide any support to the so-called parallel government.

The African Union reiterated its recognition of the Transitional Sovereign Council and the newly formed civilian transitional government as the only legitimate authorities in Sudan. It called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, a return to the negotiating table, and the launch of an inclusive national dialogue.

The Council also condemned foreign interventions that are escalating the conflict and demanded an end to all forms of military and financial support to the warring parties. It pledged to continue its active engagement in addressing the situation in Sudan.
