General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, chairman of the Sovereignty Council, affirmed the state’s support for Khartoum State’s efforts in the health sector and expressed solidarity with health workers, describing them as part of the system fighting Sudan’s enemies.

This statement came during his visit on Friday to the Ministry of Health headquarters in Khartoum State and Al-Balk Hospital, accompanied by Sovereignty Council member General Yasir Al-Atta and Khartoum Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza.

General Al-Burhan commended the Federal Minister of Health’s efforts to enhance the performance of healthcare institutions and praised the contributions of friendly and allied countries to the health sector.

Khartoum Governor Ahmed Othman stated, “Despite many healthcare facilities being rendered inoperable due to damage caused by the rebel militias, we have continued efforts to compensate for this loss by completing the construction of new hospitals and health centres, expanding and rehabilitating existing ones. These include hospitals like Al-Nau and Al-Balk, which have now become referral centres.”

He added, “Our main challenge lies in restoring services to hospitals in areas that are being cleared of the rebel militias. This requires financial funding to rehabilitate and maintain power transformers and electrical lines.”

Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Emergency Health Committee in Khartoum State, presented a performance report on health services during the war. He highlighted that performance indicators during the war have surpassed pre-war levels according to WHO standards. Currently, 31 hospitals out of 54 are operational, along with 158 health centres out of 243.
