AU Commission Welcomes Sudanese Dialogue Initiative, Says It Strengthens AU Roadmap

The African Union Commission has welcomed the launch of the Sudanese Dialogue Facilitation Initiative inside Sudan under the supervision of an independent committee of prominent Sudanese figures.

To ensure the initiative’s success, the AU Commission leadership recommended that the consultations include all relevant Sudanese stakeholders—civil, political, and social—based on the principles of inclusivity, ownership, and genuine Sudanese leadership.

In a statement issued today (Monday) and reviewed by Sudanhorizon, the African Union Commission called for the overarching objective to be a united and sovereign Sudan enjoying peace, governed by legitimate civilian institutions, with a unified national security structure and effective mechanisms for resolving political and social disputes peacefully.

The Commission said the initiative strengthens the African Union’s roadmap and the track of the Quintet mechanism within a coherent strategy led by Sudanese stakeholders.

The Commission noted that since the outbreak of the Sudanese crisis in April 2023, its leadership has sought to bridge divisions among relevant Sudanese parties and create a conducive environment for ending the armed conflict and ensuring peace and stability in Sudan, through promoting a culture of dialogue aimed at building a shared national vision.

It also stressed the importance of continuing efforts to support national unity and national institutions and working to consolidate a democratic state.
