The Joint Forces of the Armed Struggle Movements on Sunday announced recapturing the Umm Sumaima area, North Kordofan State, hours after the Rapid Support Forces militia had entered there earlier on Sunday.
The official spokesman for the Joint Forces of the Movements, Colonel Ahmed Hussein Mustafa, told Sudanhorizon news website that the joint forces of the armed struggle movements have scored a great victory and the completed cleansing Umm Sumaima area, west of the city of El Obeid in North Kordofan State, in a heroic epic written by our valiant forces at dawn today.”
He added that the rebel militia, backed by regional support and under the direct supervision of their second-in-command, had mobilized a massive force weeks ago with the aim of capturing El Obeid. ‘’However, your forces, which were fully prepared and vigilant, bravely and skillfully confronted this brutal force.”
He added: “As soon as news of the attack on Umm Sumaima reached our forces, they immediately moved and clashed with the militias in a fierce battle that ended, after hours of fierce fighting, with their complete defeat and control of the area and its surroundings. Their remnants were forced to flee in humiliation, leaving behind the bodies of their dead and huge quantities of military equipment. Our heroes continued chasing them until they reached the outskirts of the city of Al-Khuwai, in a new confirmation of our firm resolve to cleanse every inch of Sudanese land.”
The statement indicated that the initial inventory of the rebels’ losses included 232 dead, among them leading officers, in addition to seizing 22 fully armed combat vehicles and the destruction and burning of some (18) other vehicles.
The spokesman for the struggle movements appealed to Sudanese people, saying, “This victory is only a step towards final victory and complete liberation. The fate of our country is at stake, and our national duty requires us to unite and stand together in the face of this aggression.”
