The government of West Kordofan State, headed by Governor Major General (Retired) Mohamed Adam Mohamed Jaid, issued a statement on Wednesday, praising the high level of bravery displayed by the heroes of the 22nd Infantry Division in Babanusa in confronting the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia.

The Sudan News Agency (SUNA) reported that the governor “affirmed that the great sacrifices made by the officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers reflect their deep patriotism and commitment to protecting the homeland. He offered his condolences for the martyrs who answered their Lord’s call and wished a speedy recovery to the wounded and the swift return of the prisoners to their families.”

In its statement, the government of the State has strongly condemned the ethnic and physical abuses perpetrated against the civilians of Babanusa by the rebel militia of the Dagalo family.

The state government called upon national and international human rights organizations to launch an urgent investigation into the crimes committed by the militia against the state’s citizens, including the forced recruitment of minors, as well as the ongoing killings, looting, and rape of women and children in the state’s towns and villages.

The West Kordofan government concluded its statement by affirming its commitment to protecting its citizens and continuing efforts to restore stability and liberate the state from the grip of the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia as soon as possible. It reiterated its unwavering confidence in the armed forces and supporting forces to safeguard the nation’s security, protect its citizens, and restore security and stability throughout the country.

The government also renewed its call upon international and regional organizations to document the militia’s violations and ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable.

The statement indicates that officers and soldiers of the 22nd Infantry Division in Babanusa have completed their withdrawal to another area, but the General Command of the Sudanese Armed Forces has not issued any statement to that effect.
