The Sudanese Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, met in Port Sudan, last Thursday, with Australian investor Stephen Pottinger, who represents a humanitarian organization and a company registered in Sudan, to discuss investment opportunities in the country’s health sector.
Dr. Alaa Al-Tayeb Mudathir, Director of the General Directorate of International Health at the Federal Ministry of Health, stated in a press release following the meeting that the Australian investor confirmed his intention to establish a factory for advanced diagnostic materials in Sudan, which would serve as a launching point and gateway for distribution across the African continent.
Dr Alaa emphasized the importance of this investment, stressing the need for cooperation between the Federal Ministry of Health and its partners. She said, “We have begun exploring non-traditional partners in the private sector.”
She added that this cooperation has already begun with the investor providing in-kind support to the Ministry of Health, including containers and materials valued at over thirty million dollars.
In closing, the Director of International Health affirmed the commitment to establishing communication channels and building an effective mechanism with partners to receive ongoing support for the health sector.
