The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) affirmed that peace in Sudan must be Sudanese-led, Sudanese-owned, regionally coordinated, and supported by a unified international voice.

In a brief press release issued (Tuesday), IGAD stated that its Executive Secretary, Workneh Gebeyehu, convened the second Special Envoys Forum on Sudan, bringing together key regional and international actors to foster a unified response to the crisis.

In his address, Mr. Gebeyehu emphasized that peace in Sudan must be Sudanese-led, regionally coordinated, and supported by a unified international voice. He called for an urgent alliance to end the violence, protect civilians, and stabilize the IGAD region.

He reaffirmed IGAD’s unwavering commitment – alongside the African Union and international partners – to advancing a ceasefire, opening humanitarian corridors, and supporting a credible, civilian-led transition process.

The statement indicated that the Intergovernmental Authority on Development stands firmly with the people of Sudan in their pursuit of peace, dignity and stability.
