Energy Ministry Pledges Continued Support for Agriculture Across States

Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon

Minister of Energy Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting agriculture by ensuring the availability of energy and fuel to guarantee the success of the winter agricultural season across the states.

He made the remarks during a meeting in his office today with the Governor of White Nile State, Lt. Gen. Qamar Al-Din Mohamed Fadl Al-Moula, who led a delegation from the state to discuss energy and fuel services needed for the winter season, as well as the provision of transformers for vital facilities, hospitals, and dialysis centers in the state.

The minister stated that White Nile State is among the states targeted for solar and wind energy production, noting that it also holds promising petroleum and gas potential. He explained that the ministry is focusing on expanding hydropower generation, given its lower cost compared to thermal power. He further revealed that most thermal power stations and the national control center had been subjected to systematic destruction, and pledged full cooperation with the state—especially in the areas of agriculture and healthcare.

For his part, the Governor of White Nile State said that the visit aims to discuss the services related to the Ministry of Energy within the framework of reconstruction efforts in the state, which has now regained stability after suffering widespread destruction, particularly in the northern parts and the electricity sector. He emphasized that, as a primarily agricultural state, efforts are underway to attract more industrial investments and to revive river transport with neighboring South Sudan.
