The cultural program marking the Golden Jubilee of the University of Gezira kicked off Monday morning at the Deanship of Student Affairs Hall in Nashishiba, Wad Madani, celebrating 50 years of academic, research, and community service excellence.
The event features wide student participation in various literary, artistic, and intellectual competitions.
According to Abdul Rahman Jumaa, Head of the Cultural and Sports Activities Department at the Deanship of Student Affairs and member of the Students’ Golden Jubilee Committee, the program aims to showcase student talents, revitalize cultural and artistic engagement within the university, and reinforce the values and traditions that have characterized the institution since its establishment in 1975.
Competitions include poetry, short stories, essays, cultural debates, theater, visual arts, and music, alongside modern singing, choral performances, radio presentation, religious chants, folklore, theater productions, student initiatives, and even artificial intelligence projects.
Jumaa described the event as a free space for creativity and expression, embodying Gezira University’s identity as an academic hub that bridges knowledge, culture, and thought. “We are proud of the remarkable talents emerging through these competitions, which reaffirm that the university’s future is full of promise,” he said.
The winners will be honored at the Golden Jubilee closing ceremony, to be attended by university leaders, alumni, and public figures.
Dr. Abdul Rahman added that preparations began in early September, involving extensive logistical coordination with internal and external stakeholders, noting that this year’s edition would present a qualitative leap in both form and content.
“We are betting on a distinctive organization this year that will showcase the university’s bright image as it celebrates its Golden Jubilee,” he concluded.
