Diplomatic Sources: UN Will Not Recognize the Militia Government’s Representative

Port Sudan – Mariam Abashar
A diplomatic source denounced the militia’s appointment of a representative to the United Nations, stressing that the move would not receive any recognition.
On Monday, the Prime Minister of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia government, Mohamed El Hassan El Taaishi, issued what he called Resolution No. (1) of 2025, appointing Goni Mustafa Abu Bakr Sharif as “Permanent Representative of the Republic of Sudan to the United Nations.”
The source told the Sudanhorizon news website that the United Nations has not recognized the RSF phantom government, so how could it even consider what is named as the RSF Government’s permanent representative?
The source pointed out that declaring a permanent representative or any other representative from the militia is useless as long as there is no recognition from any party.
Another government source told Sudanhorizon that the UAE, the official mentor of the militia itself, has not recognized that government, then how could it, using its relations with the United Nations and the Security Council, pressure its ally, the United States, and other countries to recognize the parallel militia government?
Diplomatic sources have meanwhile reiterated that the African Union’s position rejecting the parallel government is the clearest and strongest. This position was expressed in clear statements issued by the African Peace and Security Council, in which they called on the international community not to deal with this body and to support the official Sudanese government.
The Minister Plenipotentiary at the Sudanese Mission to the United Nations, Ammar Mahmoud, emphasized in statements published on Monday that the United Nations only recognizes the legitimate Sudanese government, whose Sovereign Council is headed by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, whose Prime Minister is Dr. Kamil Idris, and whose Permanent Representative is Ambassador Al-Harith Idris.
It is worth noting that the United Nations, at its highest levels, represented by the Security Council and the Secretary-General, has refused to recognize the parallel Rapid Support Government.
