US State Department: RSF Committed Crimes Against Humanity

Washington – Sudanhorizon
The US Department of State has declared that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan committed widespread crimes against humanity during 2024, holding them responsible for the majority of violations against civilians in the country, which has been mired in a bloody conflict since April 2023.
The State Department issued its 2024 annual reports covering most developing countries, particularly those experiencing exceptional circumstances such as Sudan. The annual report focused on violations attributed to parties to the Sudanese conflict — notably the armed forces and their allied groups, as well as the RSF and its affiliated militias.
The report stated that the RSF committed the vast majority of violations, particularly in the destruction of medical infrastructure and public service facilities, as well as in gender-based, racial, and ethnic abuses, starvation tactics, and the besieging of civilians to prevent them from leaving conflict zones.
The section of the report specific to Sudan highlighted crimes including the forced displacement and expulsion of civilians from their homes, villages, and towns; killings based on ethnicity and tribe; looting of property and funds; systematic sexual violence; enforced disappearances; abductions and ransom demands — all carried out by the RSF and its allied militias, particularly in central Sudan and Darfur.
