In its Quest to Improve Tax Performance, Finance Ministry Takes Action

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, revealed the ministry’s intention to strengthen and enhance the Tax Bureau’s capabilities to improve its performance through a package of measures, most notably the completion of the Bureau’s computerized systems, greater efforts in technology and electronic collection, continuous development of employee capabilities, and expanding the tax umbrella to include the informal sector.
He emphasized his ministry’s determination to tighten the tax system so that no financial transaction is carried out for taxpayers without a tax exemption, to enforce penalties for tax evasion as a crime punishable by law, and to raise public awareness of the importance of taxes in providing services to citizens.
During his meeting with the Secretary-General and Directors of the General Departments of the Tax Bureau at the Ministry on Thursday, the Minister approved proposals to develop the Bureau’s work so that it can fulfill its role in achieving budget objectives by increasing revenues to meet spending on priorities.
For his part, Badr Al-Tamam Muhammad Saad, Secretary General of the Bureau, revealed the completion of the network connection with the Commercial Registry, Customs, and the Central Bank of Sudan. He provided a comprehensive explanation of the requirements for developing the Bureau’s work and achieving job satisfaction for its employees.
