Khartoum State: All Epidemic Under Control, State Ready to Serve Returnees

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa
Khartoum State Minister of Health, Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin, has confirmed his ministry’s readiness to provide all health services to returnees to the state.
Al-Amin has indicated in a statement to Sudanhorizon news website, that there are three sectors within the state: Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri. The Omdurman sector, which did not witness a significant influx of militias, has been able to rehabilitate all its health sector and hospitals, and has introduced quality services that were not available before the war.
“As for the Bahri sector, we have provided 60% of hospital services, and 45% in Khartoum.” He explained adding that the delay in Khartoum was due to the delay in securing water and electricity to the locality.
He confirmed that coverage will be achieved this month. “We are coordinating with international and local organizations, and we are satisfied with their performance in the health situation.”
The minister stated that cholera, watery diarrhea, and malaria diseases have been contained in the state, and that all epidemics have been brought under control.
He argued that” we are now recording only three cholera cases a day, compared to 1,590 cases per day two months ago.” He emphasized that containing the cholera epidemic demonstrates the resilience of the health system.
He added, “We have trained personnel and an abundance of medicines, and we are witnessing health stability and a lack of epidemics such as diarrhea, dengue fever, and cholera.”
He indicated that services have largely reached the state, and that what remains is exserting some popular effort to complete these services. He added, “Assistance is essential in this matter, and therefore, the voluntary return of citizens is essential to help fully restore services.”
Regarding the health situation and burial of corpses, the minister explained that all bodies found on the open have been buried 100%, and that as for the bodies buried outside the official cemeteries, 65% of them have been completed, and that work is underway and collaboration with local communities and their participation in environmental sanitation, pointing out that there is a tremendous effort at the level of the state government and the Sovereign Council to provide water and electricity, extending thanks to the Sovereign Council, international and local organizations, and the popular resistance committees for participating in the environmental sanitation mobilization.
He denied what was reported about families paying the costs of burying the bodies of their relatives, and said that in light of the war, the forensic medicine does not receive any money for burying the bodies, adding that “we provide all the resources in the state for this matter, and we provide open and unlimited support, stressing that what is being published otherwise is mere rumors, and that “what was reported was thoroughly verified and we did not find any basis for it.”
He added that paying fees for burying bodies is in the normal situation, but in war, people only have to inform the ministry and the prosecution and then they take charge of the situation.
