Foreign Minister Meets Chinese Counterpart

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Omar Mohamed Ahmed Siddiq, met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing on Wednesday, marking the end of his tenure as Sudan’s Ambassador to China and his appointment as Foreign Minister.
The Chinese Foreign Minister reiterated his country’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Sudan and maintaining the high level of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, signed ten years ago.
He stated that the important and fruitful meeting between the two countries’ presidents, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Xi Jinping, during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in September 2024, set the direction for the two countries’ relations. Both sides must implement the important consensus reached by the two countries’ presidents and consolidate the ongoing fruitful results of Sino-Sudanese relations for the benefit of both peoples.
The Chinese Minister affirmed his country’s support for Sudan in restoring peace and stability. He expressed his confidence that Sudan, under the leadership of Lieutenant General al-Burhan, is capable of achieving peace and stability.
Minister Wang Yi also congratulated Ambassador Omar Siddiq on his appointment to his high-level position. He expressed his appreciation for his achievements in strengthening the two countries’ close historical relations during his tenure as ambassador.
For his part, Minister Omar Siddiq provided an explanation of the developments in Sudan, particularly the major victories achieved by the Sudanese army in defeating the rebel militia from vast areas of Sudan’s desert and the militia’s retreat to the western states of Sudan. He emphasized that the armed forces and their supporting forces are determined to retake all areas seized by the militia in Kordofan and Darfur.
Minister Omar Siddiq discussed China’s anticipated role in reconstruction efforts in Sudan and highlighted the importance of continuing to exchange support in international forums. The minister also expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for the cooperation he received during his tenure as Sudan’s ambassador to Beijing.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs held an official dinner yesterday to bid farewell to the foreign minister.
