Sources to “Sudanhorizon”: AU Turned Down UAE’s Request

Addis Ababa – Maryam Abshir – Exclusive
Sources in Addis Ababa informed “Sudanhorizon” that the African Union (AU) has rejected the United Arab Emirates (UAE) request to hold a conference on Sudan at its headquarters.
The sources confirmed that all Emirati attempts to persuade the AU to host the Sudan conference at its premises have failed. The conference, scheduled for Friday, was intended to precede the African Union Peace and Security Council Summit.
According to the same sources, the UAE turned to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) to hold the conference after the AU denied its request. Additionally, the AU informed journalists who had expressed interest in covering the event that they would not be granted access.
Meanwhile, Malik Agar, Deputy Chairman of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, issued a strongly worded statement on Wednesday criticising the UAE’s actions regarding Sudan.
Agar described the Emirati initiative as harmful and accused it of distorting facts and prolonging aggression against Sudan. He also strongly condemned the UAE’s attempt to impose its political agenda on an AU member state, stating that the initiative’s timing was deliberately malicious and aimed at manipulating the regional political landscape rather than serving Sudan’s genuine interests.
