IGAD Secretary Reminds of Sudan’s Legacy and Calls for Wisdom to Prevail

The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu, posted a message on his account on the X platform, urging global and regional leaders and Sudanese parties to make way for peace to return and prevail in Sudan.

Gebeyehu noted that as the world prepares to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, the suffering of the Sudanese people continues to deepen. He said:

“The nation that once hosted millions of refugees, rich in cultural heritage and home to the most generous people, remains burdened by conflict, hunger, and displacement. I appeal to regional leaders, the international community, and especially the parties to the conflict: let wisdom prevail, and let peace return to the country.”
