US and Saudi Foreign Ministers Emphasise Building on Jeddah Declaration Outcomes

During a meeting on Wednesday in Riyadh, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the Jeddah Declaration and continuing efforts to end the conflict in Sudan, protect civilians, increase humanitarian aid, and advance the political transition towards a civilian government.
According to a statement from US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, Blinken and Faisal underscored the significance of “building on the previous rounds of Jeddah talks and the efforts of the Action Group for Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS),” which convened in Geneva in August.
Matthew Miller added that the two sides continued discussions on how to establish security, governance, and reconstruction in the post-conflict period. Secretary Blinken also thanked Prince Faisal for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to facilitate humanitarian aid access to Gaza and Lebanon. The ministers also discussed the need for a diplomatic solution in Lebanon that would allow civilians in the region to return home.
Miller further noted that Blinken and Faisal focused on “efforts to end the conflict in Sudan, protect civilians, increase humanitarian assistance, and push forward the political transition to a civilian government, building on the previous rounds of Jeddah talks and the work of the Action Group for Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan.
