In press statements on Saturday, Mirghani said the measure forms part of the Central Bank of Sudan’s strategic objectives to strengthen financial inclusion and support digital transformation. He noted that the withdrawal of old 500-pound banknotes began at the start of October and is scheduled to continue until December 31, 2026.
