The 25th COMESA Summit of Heads of State and Government concluded its work on Friday in Harare, Zimbabwe, with the participation of the Sudanese Prime Minister.

Foreign Minister and Minister of International Cooperation, Mohi El-Din Salem, stated in a press conference in Harare that the summit’s final communiqué included strong resolutions designating the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as a rebel militia and supporting the government’s plans for recovery and progress towards sustainable development.

The Minister explained that the summit presented numerous plans and programs in accordance with the strategy developed by COMESA within the framework of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

He confirmed that Sudan participated in the summit at all three levels: experts, ministers, and the presidential level, expressing his hope that the summit’s resolutions would contribute significantly to African integration and lead to sustainable solutions for African problems.

The Minister stated that the summit was held under the slogan “One Market, One Future,” within the framework of the African integration theory among African countries. He added, “The Sudanese delegation focused its contributions on the dangers of militias and terrorist groups moving across borders and their detrimental impact on the economy.” He pointed out that many African countries are negatively affected by militias, which actively contribute to exacerbating internal crises within societies and negatively contribute to the smuggling of drugs and other substances that harm youth and women and undermine African societies.

Salem emphasized the importance of this summit for the Sudanese government, especially since the government had just concluded the Strategic Hope Forum and emerged with a unified strategic vision for all state institutions. He explained that the participation was timely and that the summit provided an opportunity for bilateral meetings held by the Prime Minister, including with the President of the host country, Zimbabwe, the Kenyan President, William Ruto, the President of Zambia, the Executive Secretary of COMESA, and several heads of delegations. He indicated that these meetings focused on developing and strengthening cooperation between Sudan and these countries.

The Foreign Minister affirmed that Sudan, along with its African partners, can achieve integration in many aspects of commercial, industrial, and economic life by leveraging the preferential advantages of certain countries within this system.

He stated that the summit, at all levels—technical, ministerial, and presidential—offers Sudan numerous insights that can guide its recovery and progress toward victory.
