Gen. Ibrahim Jaber Ibrahim, member of the Transitional Sovereign Council, inaugurated the resumption of medical and therapeutic services at Ibrahim Malik Teaching Hospital in Khartoum this Monday. This follows the completion of maintenance, restoration, and rehabilitation work—sponsored by the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA)—which covered the emergency department, the obstetrics and gynecology department, and several wards.
Speaking at the ceremony—held under the slogan “Our Health… The Nation’s Health” and attended by the Federal Minister of Health, the Governor of Khartoum, and medical staff—Jaber affirmed continued government support for rehabilitating the country’s health sector, particularly following the destruction caused by the war.
The Sovereign Council member commended the significant role played by SAPA and its contributions to rehabilitating numerous hospitals—foremost among them Ibrahim Malik Hospital—and restoring their operational capacity, calling for this model to be replicated in other states. He also pledged to provide the necessary support to improve the hospital’s working environment and build the capacity of its staff to enhance its educational and training role. Furthermore, he issued directives to facilitate and expedite health insurance procedures and reactivate the system to ensure easier access to medical services for citizens.
For his part, the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. … Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim noted that Khartoum State has entered a recovery phase marked by the resumption of specialized health services. He commended the role of “SAPA” in hospital reconstruction and emphasized that Ibrahim Malik Hospital serves as a cornerstone of the country’s healthcare system.
For his part, Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Osman Hamza explained that the state’s vision for the health sector extends beyond mere reconstruction to improving service quality by addressing deficiencies and upgrading infrastructure; he pledged to connect the hospital to the national electricity grid. The Governor also announced the imminent return to service of several other hospitals in the state, expressing his appreciation for the support provided by the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, for the rehabilitation of medical facilities.
