Sudan’s FM Undersecretary Discusses Peace in Sudan with Senior UN Political Affairs Official

The Sudanese Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid, met on Saturday with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peace-building Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo.
According to a press statement issued by the Foreign Ministry spokesperson’s office, the meeting addressed the evolving situation in Sudan, efforts to end the war and establish peace, and ongoing preparations to launch an all-inclusive Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue.
The Undersecretary affirmed Sudan’s commitment to a national political process that is Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led, while welcoming the United Nations’ role in providing the necessary technical and political support to ensure its success.
The two sides also discussed the humanitarian situation, the return of displaced persons and refugees, and ways to support recovery and the restoration of services. Additionally, they addressed the risks posed by the illicit flow of weapons into Sudan and the repercussions for the security and stability of countries in the region.
Both parties agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation and direct consultation between Sudan and the United Nations, as well as maintaining coordination to support efforts to achieve peace and stability and address the humanitarian consequences of the war.
