Gedaref Governor Discusses Import and Export Issues at Gallabat Border Crossing and Dry Port

Gedaref Governor, Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Hassan, discussed a range of issues related to exports and imports through the Gallabat border crossing with Ethiopia and the dry port in Gedaref during a meeting at his office on Monday with a delegation from the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization’s headquarters, headed by Engineer Abbas Mohammed Ali Al-Awad, Director of Branch Coordination and representative of the Director General.

The discussions focused on expediting procedures for exporters and importers to stimulate and support economic activity in the state and across the country.

The meeting, attended by the Secretary-General of the state government and the Director of the Organization’s Gedaref sector, also addressed the Organization’s role in completing export procedures at the Gedaref dry port, allowing goods to be shipped directly to their overseas destinations.

The governor called on the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization to provide all the modern equipment and laboratory instruments required for sample testing. This, he said, would enable the Organization’s state-level branch to process transactions with the required accuracy and speed.

He highlighted the state’s substantial export potential, particularly in agricultural crops, stressing the need to strengthen standards and metrology infrastructure so the state can better benefit from these exports and direct their proceeds toward serving its residents.

He also noted that streamlining procedures and completing them promptly would significantly reduce the smuggling of exported and imported goods and products.
