Drama Professionals Propose a “Drama Track” for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue

The General Assembly of Drama Professionals has unanimously approved a paper titled “Sudanese Drama and Peacebuilding: An Assessment of the Drama Community’s Vision for Participating in Preparing for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue.” This step paves the way for submitting the paper to the High Committee for Dialogue Preparation.
The paper presents a practical vision for the role of drama in the post-war era, positioning it as an integral partner in peace-building and the reconstruction of the Sudanese collective consciousness through theater, radio, television, cinema, and digital drama.
The paper was presented on Tuesday by Mr. Mohamed Al-Mahdi Al-Fadani (Head of the Drama Professionals Committee), Dr. Faisal Ahmed Saad, Dr. Asim Mohamed Al-Awad, Mr. Al-Hilu Abdullah Al-Hilu, and Mr. Mahmoud Adam Mahmoud (“Jeddo Al-Hayat”).
Al-Fadani outlined the committee’s work and efforts, emphasizing that the drama community’s participation in the dialogue should transcend mere professional demands; instead, it should evolve into a national drama initiative that contributes to addressing the aftermath of the war and strengthening social cohesion.
For his part, Dr. Faisal Ahmed Saad provided an overview of the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue, highlighting the importance of broadening societal and cultural participation and rebuilding trust and relationships among the Sudanese people.
The paper proposed establishing a “Drama Track for the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue” and launching a national program titled “Drama for Sudan.” It also suggested two specific projects—”Tales of Sudan” and “The Other Sudanese”—and advocated for utilizing community theater, as well as radio, television, and digital drama, to support dialogue and reconciliation. The paper affirmed that the drama sector is not a political party to the dialogue; rather, it is a cultural and social force that contributes to countering hate speech and division, preserving memory, and rebuilding trust and national consciousness.
The General Assembly of Drama Practitioners’ approval of the paper serves as a preliminary step toward submitting it to the Higher Committee for Preparing the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue, presenting a practical vision for the role of drama in peace-building and societal reconstruction.
