International Legal Team Receives First Dossier on Genocide Committed in El Geneina and El Fasher

On Thursday, the Darfur Associations Union in the UK handed over a legal dossier—containing documents and evidence regarding grave crimes and violations committed against civilians—to an international law firm specializing in international justice and the prosecution of perpetrators of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. The firm is led by international lawyer Charles Taku.
The Union submitted the dossier on behalf of the victims, a move aimed at strengthening the international legal process, pursuing justice, securing redress for victims, and holding those responsible for the crimes accountable.
The dossier includes documentation, information, evidence, and testimonies concerning the crimes and violations endured by civilians. It focuses particularly on atrocities committed in and around the cities of El Geneina and El Fasher—including mass killings, the targeting of civilians, forced displacement, and widespread violations—which, according to the findings of the international fact-finding committee, bear hallmarks of genocide and crimes against humanity.
The Darfur Associations Union emphasized that this submission marks a new step in the victims’ efforts to break the cycle of impunity and open additional legal avenues for international justice, ensuring that the crimes are not covered up and the victims’ suffering is not forgotten. The Union also expressed its readiness to cooperate with relevant international legal institutions and bodies, in accordance with international law and standards, to support the pursuit of justice and assist the victims. The Association called upon all victims and those affected by war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Darfur—including those who suffered death, injury, psychological or physical harm, displacement, or the loss of property and livelihoods—to contact the Association’s legal committee. They are urged to complete the designated form to document the harm suffered and to safeguard their legal rights and claims, including the right to reparation and compensation.
The Association emphasized that all information provided would be handled with confidentiality and responsibility, ensuring the protection of the victims’ rights and dignity.
These initiatives are part of the efforts by the Darfur Associations Union in the UK to end impunity and achieve justice regarding the grave crimes and violations committed in Darfur, particularly in El Geneina and El Fasher.
Legal expert Charles Taku possesses extensive international experience in the field of international justice and the prosecution of perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide; he played a prominent role in the pursuit of justice and redress for victims of the genocides in Rwanda and Sierra Leone.
