Al-Burhan Receives Recommendations from Media Forum, Reviews Country’s Overall Situations

The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, received the recommendations of the Sudanese Media Forum on Thursday, at the General Command of the Armed Forces headquarters. The forum, held in Khartoum from September 7–9, was attended by over 130 journalists and media professionals. Al-Burhan pledged to implement the recommendations and directed the formation of a follow-up committee.
The Chairman of the Sovereign Council outlined the key political and military events Sudan has witnessed since the fall of the “Ingaz” (Salvation) regime. He stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have remained committed to paving the way for the Sudanese people to choose their leadership through free elections. He noted that while the military had expected the civilian forces sharing the transitional leadership to share this same commitment, that assessment proved incorrect. He acknowledged that both the Armed Forces and the revolutionaries had made mistakes contributing to the country’s current situation, affirming the Sudanese Army’s determination to avoid repeating such errors.
The Chairman of the Sovereign Council also praised the immense sacrifices made by the Sudanese people in the “Battle of Dignity,” noting that these sacrifices began from the very first moment, as Sudanese citizens joined Armed Forces camps and fought alongside the military against the rebels. Al-Burhan expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the brotherly and friendly nations that stood by Sudan during the difficult period caused by the aggression launched by the terrorist militia against the Sudanese state and its institutions; he specifically named Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and Eritrea.
Responding to inquiries from the media, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council affirmed the state’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the Sudanese dialogue. He stated that the dialogue is not concerned with power-sharing or participation in governance, but rather with charting a roadmap to conclude the transitional period, defining the future character of the state, and holding general elections.
Regarding the arms embargo resolution expected to be presented to the UN Security Council on, Friday, Al-Burhan considered it unlikely to pass in the form proposed by the United States—which calls for expanding the embargo to cover the entire country.
He added, “If it does pass, we have arrangements in place to ensure we remain unaffected by it.”
Al-Burhan also expressed dissatisfaction with the executive performance of the civilian government, particularly concerning living standards. He stated that the government needs to be close to the people and attuned to their suffering, noting that the Armed Forces would work to assist the government in resolving these issues, while acknowledging that the country is facing an external economic war.
