Khartoum Media Forum Continues its Work, Adopts Committee Recommendations and Final Statement Tuesday

The committees formed during the first day of the Khartoum Media Forum are holding their meetings today (Tuesday) in Khartoum. Their aim is to transform the forum’s recommendations and proposals into actionable action plans and programs.
The Khartoum Media Forum commenced yesterday (Monday) at the Canon Hotel in the Amarat district, on Street 15, with over 60 media professionals of both genders in attendance from within Sudan and abroad. On the first day, participants discussed the challenges facing the media landscape, in its various forms and institutions, during the war. They also addressed the role of journalists in confronting the aggression and conspiracy against Sudan following the war launched by the Rapid Support Forces militia on April 15, 2013, of which media institutions were among the first victims.
The participants also discussed a draft professional code of ethics, pledging to promote professional values, reject hate speech, and unify the media to confront the dangers facing the state and threatening its survival.
Four committees formed on Monday —the Media Economics Committee, chaired by Adel Al-Baz; the Media Development Committee, chaired by Salah Omar Al-Sheikh; the Legislation and Laws Committee, chaired by Amal Abu Al-Qasim; and the Policies Committee, chaired by Ambassador Al-Ubaid Ahmed Marouh—are reviewing the recommendations and proposals agreed upon during the first day’s proceedings. They are preparing a clear and specific matrix of priorities, a feasible implementation plan, defining objectives, procedures, and the entities responsible for implementation, setting priorities and proposed timelines, and formulating final recommendations to be presented at the forum’s general meeting this morning.
