Sudan Affirms Cooperation with the Office of the High CHR Based on the Principle of Complementarity

Sudanese PM Kamil Idris affirmed that upholding and promoting fundamental human rights principles is an integral part of Sudanese society, embodied in its religious teachings, cultural heritage, and social and moral values.

He reiterated Sudan’s readiness for full cooperation with the United Nations and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to strengthen and advance human rights principles, in accordance with the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.

This came during his meeting on Tuesday with the Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Sudan, Radwan Nouicer, and his accompanying delegation.

The Prime Minister explained that Sudan will work with the Office of the High Commissioner based on the concept of complementarity and joint action, particularly in the areas of monitoring, verification, and investigation, as well as technical cooperation and training. He noted that the war in Sudan – which is nearing its end – has presented significant challenges, especially given the grave atrocities and unprecedented crimes committed by the rebel militia against civilians.

Kamil Idris stated that Sudan will work to restore its social fabric to its former strength through security and community peace efforts, in cooperation with international friends and partners.

He also reiterated his full confidence in the commendable efforts of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, whose mandate was renewed for another term, expressing his confidence in the efforts of the Independent Expert and directing the relevant state bodies to cooperate fully with him.

The “Sudanhorizon ” website had previously reported that the Independent Expert on Human Rights would visit Sudan prior to the Human Rights Council meetings scheduled to begin on September 7.
