Government Meeting Discusses Expected Financing from Belarusian Development Bank

A government meeting discussed cooperation files between the Sudanese government and its Belarusian counterpart.
Engineer and Consultant Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, Minister of Energy and head of the Sudanese side of the Sudan-Belarus Joint Committee, chaired a coordination and follow-up meeting of the Sudanese side on Monday. The meeting discussed and followed up on proposed areas of cooperation with the Republic of Belarus.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Consultant Mohammed Nour Al-Daim; Ambassador Jamal Malik, Director of the European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy; Sudan’s Ambassador to Belarus, Ambassador Omar Al-Amin; and members of the Sudanese side of the committee.
According to a press statement issued by Sudan’s Ministry of Energy, the meeting discussed a number of proposed joint projects and cooperation files, as well as the expected financing from the Belarusian Development Bank, as part of efforts to strengthen the economic and development partnership between the two countries.
The proposed areas of cooperation included increasing the volume of Sudanese exports, establishing and developing grain silos, localizing the manufacture of tractors, agricultural equipment and electricity industry inputs, in addition to cooperation in the petroleum sector, including technical studies and field development.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation files related to the exchange of expertise, capacity building and training, as well as scientific, cultural and communications fields and the provision of scholarships. It also discussed healthcare projects and strengthening cooperation between Sudanese and Belarusian universities.
The meeting stressed the importance of expediting the completion of the technical and procedural requirements for the proposed cooperation files. The committee called on the relevant authorities to urgently identify requirements and priorities, paving the way for the approval of agreements and the commencement of project implementation in a manner that serves the shared interests and promotes mutual benefits between Sudan and Belarus.
In 2017, Sudan and Belarus signed a number of joint cooperation agreements, including protocols covering agriculture, oil, industry, science and technology, health, higher education, and scientific research.
