Sudan Condemns Attack on Damietta Port , Affirms Full Solidarity with Egypt

The Sudanese government on Thursday condemned the drone attack that targeted Damietta port in Egypt on Wednesday, which resulted in damage to two ships.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation described the attack as “a reprehensible act of aggression, a violation of international law, and a serious threat to the security, safety, and stability of the region.”
In a statement, the Ministry affirmed the Sudanese government’s full solidarity with and support for Egypt in confronting all threats to its security and stability or any infringement upon its sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing that any threat to Egypt’s security constitutes a threat to the security of the entire region.
The Ministry also affirmed its full support for all legitimate measures taken by Egypt to defend its national security, protect its vital installations, and safeguard its sovereignty, in accordance with the provisions of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
The Sudanese government, according to the statement, reiterated its call for respect for the sovereignty of states and for refraining from targeting civilian facilities and vital infrastructure or endangering the security of international navigation, in order to contribute to maintaining regional and international peace and security.
The Egyptian Cabinet announced on Thursday that preliminary investigations into the fire that broke out in the Mediterranean port of Damietta on Wednesday indicated that it was caused by a drone attack, without specifying the perpetrator.
The Cabinet confirmed in a statement that no party has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, adding that the relevant authorities are continuing their investigations to uncover all the circumstances of the incident and take the necessary measures to ensure the protection of Egypt’s interests and national security.
A fire broke out on Wednesday in the port of Damietta after a blaze erupted in a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification unit and another unit used for storing it. Emergency and firefighting teams rushed to the scene to contain the incident and control the fire.
For its part, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources confirmed that the fire resulted in no injuries or loss of life, noting that emergency and firefighting teams responded to the incident immediately upon its occurrence, in accordance with approved rapid response plans.
