Civil Defence: Situation Under Control Following Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rainfall has affected several parts of Sudan over the past few hours, while the Civil Defence Administration confirmed that the situation remains under control.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Civil Defence Administration said no fatalities had been recorded in the states affected by the rains, with only minor damage reported in Al Jazirah State.

The authority added that the River Nile has not yet recorded any increase in water levels but expected levels to rise in the coming days as runoff from seasonal floods and inland valleys reaches the river.

Meanwhile, the Executive Committee of the Higher Committee for the Autumn Emergency in River Nile State, chaired by the state’s Minister of Infrastructure and Urban Development, Engineer Salah El-Din Ali Mohamed, issued a series of directives aimed at protecting lives and property in flood-prone areas and along seasonal watercourses.

The committee also called for tighter regulation of river transport vessels and urged that they be equipped with all necessary safety measures.

In addition, it stressed the importance of continuing efforts by local authorities to clear valleys, seasonal streams and drainage channels, while strengthening Civil Defence emergency units across all localities in the state.
