Brasilia Hosts Meetings of the Sudanese-Brazilian Political Consultative Committee

The seventh session of the Sudanese-Brazilian Political Consultative Committee convened in the Brazilian capital on Monday.

The Sudanese delegation was headed by Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, while the Brazilian side was headed by Carlos Duarte, Director General of the Department of African and Middle Eastern Affairs at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Tijani Sewar, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Brazil, was also present.

According to a statement issued by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and ways to develop them in various fields. They affirmed their shared commitment to strengthening political consultation mechanisms and expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation, as well as expediting the implementation of agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two sides.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation provided a detailed briefing on the developments in Sudan, addressing the repercussions of the war and its resulting humanitarian and economic impacts, including the destruction of infrastructure.

He also presented the Sudanese government’s vision for achieving peace and restoring security and stability, and its position on relevant regional and international initiatives.

The Sudanese side emphasized its keen interest in broadening the horizons of cooperation.

The two sides discussed cooperation with Brazil, particularly in agriculture, agricultural research, higher education, health, and livestock, along with leveraging Brazil’s extensive experience in reconstruction efforts and strengthening public-private partnerships to increase trade and investment between the two countries.

The talks also addressed cooperation in climate change, scientific research, and culture. Both sides emphasized the importance of implementing joint programs, enhancing academic collaboration between universities and research centers, and maintaining ongoing coordination on environmental issues of mutual interest, including the outcomes of COP30 and preparations for COP17.

The head of the Brazilian delegation reiterated his country’s commitment to developing bilateral relations with Sudan, continuing cooperation in political, economic, and cultural fields, and supporting reconstruction efforts. He expressed Brazil’s full readiness to enhance training and capacity-building programs and send experts in agriculture, agricultural research, and livestock to effectively support development efforts in Sudan.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continued political dialogue and close coordination in regional and international forums, and the activation of all bilateral agreements. The eighth session of the Political Consultative Committee will be held in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, at a date to be determined later through diplomatic channels.
