Sudan, UN Partner to Scale Up Health Interventions Amid Worsening Crisis

The Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Ali Babiker Sayed Ahmed, met on Sunday, in Khartoum, with Rosaria Bruno, Deputy UN Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Health and its humanitarian partners. The meeting, which was also attended by senior ministry officials, focused on mechanisms to expand interventions related to the cholera outbreak response. This expansion aims to strengthen prevention and control efforts and improve access to life-saving health services in affected areas, with a focus on supporting priority states. The meeting also addressed the importance of integrating health and humanitarian interventions and coordinating efforts to ensure that health services and humanitarian aid reach all those affected throughout Sudan. This integration will contribute to strengthening the resilience of the health system and responding to the growing humanitarian needs.
Dr. Ali Babiker affirmed the Federal Ministry of Health’s commitment to continuing close action with the United Nations and humanitarian partners, and to providing a supportive environment for coordinating efforts and achieving an effective and equitable response that reaches all citizens without exception.
In this context, an agreement was reached on establishing a joint mechanism to contain the spread of cholera in West Kordofan State.
For her part, Ms. Rosaria Bruno reiterated the United Nations system’s commitment to continuing its support for the health sector in Sudan and strengthening its partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health, thereby contributing to expanding the scope of health and humanitarian interventions and ensuring their access to all areas according to national needs and priorities.
