New Zealand: Commitment to Providing Further Humanitarian Aid to Sudan

A senior New Zealand official has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continued communication and cooperation, and to providing a new package of humanitarian aid to support those affected by the crisis in Sudan.
Todd Cleaver, Executive Director of the New Zealand International Development Board, has emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue and cooperation with various international partners and humanitarian organizations to help alleviate the suffering of those affected and support humanitarian efforts.
The official made the pledge during a meeting with the Sudanese Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan to Australia and New Zealand, Mr. Ahmed Salah Bayoumi, Thursday, at the Board’s headquarters in Wellington, New Zealand.
The meeting addressed the latest developments in the humanitarian situation in Sudan and ways to enhance cooperation and coordination with New Zealand humanitarian and development institutions, in order to mobilize further humanitarian support for those affected.
The Chargé d’Affaires affirmed the Sudanese government’s commitment to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need and stressed the importance of concerted international efforts and an urgent response to the growing humanitarian needs. He commended the International Development Council’s role in supporting humanitarian work and raising awareness of humanitarian issues internationally.
For his part, Mr. Todd Cleaver expressed interest in following developments in Sudan, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation with various international partners and humanitarian organizations to help alleviate the suffering of those affected civilians and support humanitarian efforts.
It is worth noting that the International Development Council serves as the main umbrella organization for development and relief organizations operating in New Zealand and contributes to coordinating foreign aid and humanitarian work. New Zealand has provided approximately six million US dollars in humanitarian assistance to Sudan in recent times, as part of its contribution to alleviating the suffering of those affected by the terrorist militia’s insurgency.
