End of Stranded Persons Crisis at Argeen border Crossing
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Brigadier General Mubarak Daoud, Director of the Argeen border crossing and supervisor of border crossings, announced that the crisis of those stranded at the crossing has completely resolved since the morning of Eid al-Adha.
In a press statement on Saturday, he explained that the crisis ended after the arrival of several buses, as ordered by the Chairman of the Sovereign Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the mobilization of a large number of buses by the Governor of the Northern State, which arrived at the crossing to provide transportation for those stranded there for several days.
He noted that two initiatives, one from Customs and the other from the Zakat Bureau in Halfa locality, provided additional buses to transport the Sudanese returnees from Egypt.
Mubarak confirmed that the crossing has returned to its normal operations and is currently receiving between 130 and 150 people daily during the Eid holidays. He also confirmed the availability of buses to transport citizens returning from Egypt to various states.
He added that the ticket price had dropped to 150,000 Egyptian pounds from 240,000, noting that approximately 30 buses were waiting for returnees at the crossing.
The director of the Argeen border crossing anticipated an increase in the number of returnees from Egypt after the tenth day of Eid al-Adha, provided that travel continues smoothly and sufficient transportation is available to accommodate the expected numbers.
