Energy: Relentless Efforts to Secure Stable Electricity Supply

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, has announced the reconnection of gas turbine unit (G03) at the Qurei (1-2) power station to the national electricity grid. He also announced the completion of major maintenance work on unit (03) at the Umm Dabakir power station, restoring it to high operational efficiency.
The Minister emphasized that these steps represent a significant boost towards stabilizing the electricity supply and reflect the ability of national personnel to overcome challenges and rehabilitate damaged power generation facilities. He commended the considerable efforts exerted by the engineers, technicians, administrators, and workers at both stations to achieve this national accomplishment.
For his part, Dr. Madawi Abdel Karim, Director of the Sudanese Thermal Power Generation Company, explained that the Qurei gas turbine unit’s return to service came after a shutdown of more than three years due to damage sustained at the station. He noted that its resumption of operations on the Day of Arafah represents a significant addition to the national electricity grid and will contribute to stabilizing the supply in the coming period.
He added that the major overhaul of Unit 3 at the Umm Dabakir power station has been successfully completed, increasing its operational capacity to 122 megawatts, compared to a previous maximum load of 80 megawatts. This will directly improve electricity supply and increase operational efficiency.
Dr. Madawi noted that the maintenance work at the Umm Dabakir station was carried out by the Indian company IMR in cooperation with national personnel. He emphasized that this achievement embodies the spirit of teamwork and determination to rebuild the electricity sector and support development and service efforts. He expressed his appreciation for the role played by the Ministries of Energy and Finance in providing fuel and funding maintenance and rehabilitation work, which contributes to the stability and sustainability of thermal power generation units.
The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Engineer Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to continuing its support for maintenance, rehabilitation, and expansion projects in the electricity sector. This support aims to enhance the stability of the national grid and improve services provided to citizens in all states of Sudan.
