Energy Ministry Seeks State Support for Expanding Solar Energy Projects in Northern State

The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum announced on Thursday that it is exploring “state support for expanding solar energy projects by approving the required legislation, exempting solar inputs from customs duties, and providing bank financing to encourage private sector expansion and project owners to initially cover the agricultural and residential sectors.”
Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Al-Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, confirmed that his ministry has put in place emergency measures to address national electricity challenges and work towards stabilizing the electricity supply, particularly in the Northern State.
He emphasized the importance of electricity in public life and its role in supporting the national economy and production.
The minister made the remarks during his meeting with the Minister of Finance and Economy of the Northern State, Amir Hassan Al-Bashir, and the Minister of Infrastructure, Engineer Mohamed Sayed Ahmed Faqiri, in the presence of Engineer Abdullah Ahmed, Director General of the Sudan Electricity Holding Company. The meeting reviewed the electricity situation in the Northern State and the challenges it faces, which have led to shortage in electricity supply.
The meeting also discussed emergency solutions, the progress of the solar power plant project in the state (which will produce 10 megawatts), the provision of a transformer for the Northern State, the status of the thermal power plant, and the Egyptian electricity interconnection projects. The Minister of Finance of the Northern State stressed the importance of the stability of the electricity service and its role in increasing production in agricultural projects, securing food, and addressing the challenges facing the health sector.
