During the meeting, the Egyptian minister reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan, expressing his welcome for the UN envoy’s participation in the fifth meeting of the Consultative Mechanism to promote and coordinate peace efforts in Sudan, which will be held in Cairo on Wednesday.

He emphasized Egypt’s hope that the meeting’s outcomes will contribute to advancing international efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in Sudan, within the framework of ongoing coordination with regional and international partners, foremost among them the Quartet.

The Foreign Minister also affirmed the parameters of Egypt’s position regarding developments in the Sudanese crisis, stressing the priority of preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, as well as the paramount importance of maintaining Sudanese state institutions, considering this a fundamental pillar for restoring stability. He also reviewed the results of Egypt’s ongoing communications with the Sudanese side, including his visit to Port Sudan in November 2025.

Abdel-Aty highlighted Egypt’s efforts and contacts aimed at achieving a humanitarian truce and a ceasefire, in coordination with international and regional partners. He reviewed, in this context, the aspects of Egypt’s continued support for the Sudanese people, given Egypt’s hosting of a large number of Sudanese on its territory, and affirmed Egypt’s continued commitment to its humanitarian and historical responsibilities towards Sudan and its brotherly people.

For his part, the UN Envoy has expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting Sudan, commending the political and humanitarian efforts undertaken by Egypt, praising its hosting of large numbers of Sudanese, and its active role in supporting efforts to achieve a ceasefire and working with international partners to create the appropriate conditions for launching a comprehensive political process. This, he noted, would contribute to ending the suffering of the Sudanese people and enhancing the prospects for stability in the country.
