Washington – Sudanhorizon

The United States of America announced the allocation of more than $420 million to Sudan, for the regional response to the urgent needs of the displaced and host communities in Sudan and neighboring countries.

The US State Department said in a press release, on Monday, that the United States announced this support during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, by providing nearly $2.1 billion in humanitarian assistance to address what it described as unprecedented levels of humanitarian needs worldwide, including those affected by conflicts in Sudan, Gaza, Myanmar, and Syria, in addition to those affected by migration in Western Europe.

The US State Department’s statement added that these amounts will be allocated to finance critical and life-saving humanitarian assistance to those affected by crises, including displaced persons and receiving host communities that support the displaced in their times of need.

The statement indicated that this support includes assistance provided to Sudanese inside the country and in neighboring countries, in response to the needs resulting from the crisis that began in April 2023 and has become one of the most serious global challenges.

It also noted that the amount allocated to Sudan amounts to approximately $424 million, which is used to provide food, health and nutrition services, protection, and other critical assistance to people affected by the war in Sudan throughout the country and neighboring countries.

The US State Department noted that during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the United States announced this life-saving assistance from the American people, which includes more than $873 million through the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration of the State Department and more than $1.2 billion through the Office of Humanitarian Assistance of the United States Agency for International Development.
